Entablature offers an essay and resume editing service for high school students applying to college applicants to graduate and professional schools, and all students and young professionals assembling résumés for internships and jobs. The essay is the only part of your application that gives you an opportunity to present yourself to the committee. It is your only opportunity to distinguish yourself from the rest of the applicant pool by drawing attention to your specific, unique qualities..

Accordingly, utmost care must be taken with your essay, and Entablature requires a minimum of 3-4 days to allow for two or three rounds of editing, if necessary. We will spend some time getting to know you, your values, and your goals so that our editing suggestions retain your personality and voice. Your essays must be not only fabulous and distinctive but also consistent with the rest of your folder.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

Too often, applicants submit essays that do not connect with the rest of the application. We recall a very scientifically inclined applicant who was regarded by his teachers as an analytical thinker with a dry, albeit lucid, writing style. Such was mentioned by two of the four references in his application. The problem was that the essays in his folder had a lyrical style steeped in the corpus of comparative literature. This was not dry writing; it was florid – almost “pretty” – prose with a dramatic underpinning to it. As good as the essays were, we could only wonder whether his mother, who happened to be an English professor, did the writing for him. This was a significant and unfortunate inconsistency in his folder, as was reflected in the application results.

TAILORED DOCUMENTS

As for your résumé, or curriculum vitae (CV), it’s a make-or-break element in the job/internship search process. It usually has to be tailored for the field of employment. If you are applying for jobs with law firms and corporations, for example, you will need different résumé versions; although these versions may contain much of the same information, they will adhere to their respective industry format standards.

Our editing fees are listed in each school category on this site save for joint degree students, including MD/PhD applicants. Fees will be determined on a case by case basis, as joint degree programs may present a variety of field-specific challenges.
For fine arts and performance art applicants, fees will be determined on a case by case basis.
